Solas na Gréine - Light of the Sun

Imagine the rolling hills of East Clare, the sun breaking over Lough Derg on the river Shannon, where early Christian churches and monasteries were built on the lake’s shores and islands. The oldest church in continuous use in Ireland, St. Cronán’s, dating from the 10th century, nestles near to the lake shore in the village of Tuamgraney. It’s just a short walk from there to The Christian Community house, which serves a congregation of adults and children who live all around Co. Clare and beyond, inspired by the renewal of religious life towards the future, out of the Celtic Christian past...A growing community where the house and chapel need to be renovated and expanded, as church events can no longer be accommodated comfortably.

We are seeking support and help to ensure that the Christian Community can grow and thrive in the 21st Century in Ireland. We are committed to involving the congregation, the local community, the wider community in Ireland and reaching out to the rest of Europe and the world. When completed, Solas na Gréine will be the home for the activities of The Christian Community into the future by bringing the warmth and support of the community closer through the residential units.

New Growth and Development Proposal

A golden opportunity has arisen through the purchase of adjoining land to our Christian Community House.

We envisage a new Church, vibrant community centre and places for people to live, “Solas na Greine”.The new Church will be a beautiful multipurpose space for the sacraments, for Christian Community conferences and workshops and for use as a venue for artistic and cultural events. It is planned to seat up to 150 people.

Solas na Gréine (‘Light of the Sun’ in Irish) will have residential units for people interested in living close to The Christian Community in an intentional community. All of which will have access to gardens or balconies and the use of the adjoining community facilities.

The renovation of the existing house into guest rooms and community rooms, such as a kitchen, therapy room, library, meeting rooms and toilet facilities.
